Maine’s largest fiddle orchestra of traditional Celtic music has set dates for its 2013 concert series.
Fiddle-icious will perform on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Freeport Performing Arts Center, 30 Holbrook Street in Freeport. Admission for the Freeport show will be $10 at the door. Children ages 12 and under will enter for free.

The following weekend, the group will perform on Sunday, November 3 at 2 p.m. at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar Street in Lewiston. Admission for the Lewiston show will be $15 ($13 for seniors/students). To reserve tickets, call 689-2000.
Now in its tenth year entertaining audiences, Fiddle-icious is a large and vibrant group of Maine musicians who play fiddle, piano, harp, guitar, banjo, accordion, cello, tin whistle, concertina and upright bass. They play tunes passed down from Maine’s various cultural traditions, including jigs, reels, aires, marches, and waltzes, often accompanied by step-dancing and singing.
The group is directed by Don Roy of Gorham, who is hailed as a Maine “living cultural treasure.” Don and his wife, Cindy, who provides piano accompaniment, grew up in French-Canadian families where music was an integral part of their lives. Their desire to share their knowledge with others and to foster community through music is a testimony to their commitment to keep their musical heritage alive.
To experience the community spirit of Fiddle-icious, see the 2009 documentary short, “Fiddle-icious: A Community of Music,” produced by the Salt Institute, at http://vimeo.com/8240140.
CDs will be available for purchase at each performance location. A sample of tunes, the season’s complete concert schedule, and general information about the group are available at fiddleicious.com.
