St. Dom’s Class of 1966 celebrates 50th Class Reunion
The St. Dom’s Class of 1966 celebrated their 50th Class Reunion recently at Saint Dominic Academy. The evening started off with a social hour followed by the taking of a class photo. Sr. Therese Demers led a tribute to all deceased classmates and a closing prayer was led by Fr. Richard Malo. Dinner was catered by Mac’s Grill and dessert was provided by The Italian Bakery. Suzanne Roy presented a special power point called “Golden Memories,” Louise Landry Robert, Linda Rouleau St. Pierre, Patricia Poulin Patry and Linda Michaud Holdway led the group in singing the school song, and Carmen Berube Coulombe held a drawing of many gifts and prizes. After dinner, the classmates enjoyed dancing to music provided by DJ Chad Leighton. They wrapped up their Reunion Weekend with a delicious brunch at the Green Ladle on Sunday. A great time was had by all who attended.
Former collection coordinator to discuss “Franco-American Voices from the Front Lines”
James Myall
James Myall will return to the Franco-American Collection in Lewiston on Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m. as the presenter of a program called “Sous les Drapeaux: Franco-American Voices from the Front Lines.” Mayall, who served as coordinator of the Collection from 2011 to 2014, will look at various unique aspects of Franco-Americans’ experiences serving in the U.S. armed forces, including divided national identities, use of the French language, and questions of patriotism and discrimination before, during and after wartime.
Part of the ongoing series “Franco-Americans During Wartime: A Heritage of Service,” which began last spring, the program is free and open to the public. It will take place in Room 170 at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College.
Maine chef to appear on Food Network reality show
Shaun “Yaz” Yazbek will compete on “Chopped” on Tuesday, March 1.
Shaun “Yaz” Yazbek will compete on the Food Network reality show “Chopped” next month. Yazbek will compete with three other chefs in an episode titled “Truck Stop Stars,” pitting the four competitors against each other for a $10,000 prize.
The show, now in its 27th season on Food Network, gives four chefs a mystery basket of ingredients, which then must be turned into a dish. The show is broken into three courses: an appetizer, an entrée, and a desert. Chefs are given different mystery ingredients for each course. After each course, one of the chefs is eliminated by the panel of judges who base their results on creativity, presentation, and taste.
CLT’s “Shakespeare in Hollywood” Opens This Weekend

The hilarious comedy “Shakespeare in Hollywood” opens this weekend at the L-A Community Little Theater. Written by Ken Ludwig (“Lend Me a Tenor,” Moon Over Buffalo”) and directed by Mitchell Clyde Thomas, the play is a fanciful and farcical romp set in 1930s Hollywood.
Winner of The Helen Hayes Award for Best New Play of the Year in 2004, this fast-paced comedy is right out of the screwball films of the 1930s. A “play within a play” that melds fact with fiction, it follows the real-life quest to bring Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the silver screen in 1934. In the midst of all of the business of making this talking picture, Oberon, King of the Fairies, and his sidekick Puck magically arrive, having taken a wrong turn on their way home from the wood near Athens. And then the fun begins!
Performances will be held on February 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 at 7:30 p.m. and February 14 and 21 at 2:00 p.m. All performances will be held at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center on 30 Academy Street in Auburn. Tickets may be ordered online at www.laclt.com or by calling 783-0958.
County Republicans elect new chair
Patti Gagne of Lewiston was elected unanimously to fill the post.
A capacity crowd of Androscoggin County Republicans met at Auburn City Hall recently and unanimously elected Lewiston native and small business owner Patti Gagne as their new Chair. Several state, county, and local Republican office holders were in attendance for the event.
“For the Love of Art” show set for Feb. 13

Middle School Select Choir sings at State House
Reps. Gina Melaragno, David Sawicki and Bruce Bickford, all of Auburn, welcome the Auburn Middle School Select Choir to the State House recently. The choir sang the national anthem to open the day’s session.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Cody Donovan of Lisbon Falls, a graduate of Lisbon High School now serving aboard the USS Green Bay (LPD 20), recently earned the ship’s Sailor of the Week award. The honor recognizes superior performance of enlisted personnel, emphasizing outstanding achievement, exemplary personal conduct and military bearing, and demonstrated initiative in the performance of duty. The program also motivates personnel to strive for improvement in their assigned duties and leadership.

The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce hosted a press conference last week to unveil the results of its recent branding efforts. After months of analysis, market research and in-depth conversations with its directors, members, staff, and local residents – all carried out with local branding agency The Brand Collective – the Chamber will now be called the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
Poliquin unveils “No Welfare for Terrorists” bill in Lewiston
