Bates’ Glazer to perform four sonatas this weekend

Bates College artist-in-residence and internationally renowned pianist Frank Glazer will perform sonatas by Mozart, Weber, Hindemith and Beethoven on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will take place in Bates College’s Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at 75 Russell Street in Lewiston.


Glazer’s distinguished career has included numerous recordings, solo recitals and performances with orchestras and chamber ensembles. He has concertized in more than 24 countries; appeared on his own television show for NBC stations; made more than 50 recordings and performed 30 world premieres.
Glazer was a founding member of the Eastman Quartet, the Cantilena Chamber Players and the New England Piano Quartette. With his wife, the late Ruth Glazer, he founded the long-running Saco River Festival in Cornish. Born in 1915, he was a student of Artur Schnabel and Arnold Schoenberg and is at home in every style of music from Bach to contemporary.?He has been an artist-in-residence at Bates College since 1980.
The evening’s program will consist of W.A. Mozart’s Sonata in G major, K. 283; Carl Maria von Weber’s Sonata No. 3, Op. 49; Paul Hindemith’s Sonata No. 2; and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata in B-flat major, Op. 22.
