Innovative wind quintet to perform at Bates
Known for their unique approach to programming and stagecraft, WindSync performs at Bates College’s Olin Arts Center on Friday, November 1.
A dynamic wind quintet known for its innovative programming and stagecraft will appear at Bates College on Friday, November 1. WindSync will perform music by Anton Reicha, Astor Piazzolla, David Maslanka and Maurice Ravel in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Hailed by the Houston Chronicle as “revolutionary chamber musicians,” the quintet has been thrilling audiences nationwide with its unique approach to classical music. Based in Houston, the group consists of Garett Hudson, flutist; Erin Tsai, oboist; Jack Marquardt, clarinetist; Tracy Jacobson, bassoonist; and Anni Hochhalter, who plays the horn.
Madison Rising Concert Benefits Veterans
The patriotic rock band, Madison Rising performed at the Lewiston Armory on October 19, 2013. The concert benefited Wounded Heroes Program of Maine and Disabled American Veterans. Bates’ Glazer to perform four sonatas this weekend

Bates College artist-in-residence and internationally renowned pianist Frank Glazer will perform sonatas by Mozart, Weber, Hindemith and Beethoven on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will take place in Bates College’s Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at 75 Russell Street in Lewiston.
Fiddle-icious sets local performance dates
Maine’s largest fiddle orchestra of traditional music, Fiddle-icious, will present concerts in Freeport on October 25 and in Lewiston on November 3.
Maine’s largest fiddle orchestra of traditional Celtic music has set dates for its 2013 concert series.
Fiddle-icious will perform on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Freeport Performing Arts Center, 30 Holbrook Street in Freeport. Admission for the Freeport show will be $10 at the door. Children ages 12 and under will enter for free.
Broadway Dolls take stage for Franco Center Gala
The Broadway Dolls, five singers, dancers and actresses who regularly perform in Broadway’s biggest shows, will perform classic songs from Broadway and Motown at the Franco Center’s Annual Gala on October 26.
Broadway standards, Motown hits, stilettos, mini-skirts, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and desserts, and plenty of wine and champagne all await patrons at the Franco Center’s annual gala fundraiser concert by the Broadway Dolls on Saturday, October 26.
Patrons with $35 tickets may attend a pre-concert reception at 6 p.m. and one, called “Broadway Bubbly,” after the show where they can mingle over champagne and dessert with the five women in the Broadway Dolls. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
WHA Gallery spotlights Rothe, Angelides

The Woman’s Hospital Association (WHA) Rotating Art Gallery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston is now displaying watercolors by Irene Rothe of Auburn and photographs by Debbie Angelides, manager of the WHA Gift Shop.
Rothe began painting in 1973 with instructor Phyllis Woodsum of Wayne. She began showing her art work at sidewalk shows in 1992. Her primary medium is watercolor, and she enjoys painting island scenes, especially of Monhegan.
LAME Comedy Fest nets $1,646 for Dempsey Center
The inaugural LAME Comedy Fest recently raised $1,646 for the Dempsey Center. The first night’s lineup included (l. to r.) Mark Turcotte, George Hamm, Josh Day, Phoebe Angle, Dee Turcotte, Mark Reilly, Brian Brinegar and Johnny Ater.
A pair of sold out shows at the inaugural LAME Comedy Fest on September 27 and 28 brought in $1,646 for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.
Event organizer Mark Turcotte hosted some of New England’s best comedians, including George Hamm, Johnny Ater, Phoebe Angle, Mark Reilly, Josh Day, Brian Brinegar and Dee Turcotte in the first show. The festival concluded the following evening with performances by Nick Lavallee, Kyron Hobdy, Brett Groh, Troy Pennell, Ryan Waning, Ian Stuart, Matt Kona and Will Green.
“It was an awesome weekend,” said Turcotte. “We have some very funny people in the local comedy scene and I was thrilled to see such an outpouring of support for this event and the Dempsey Center. I’m already planning for next year.”
“Arsenic and Old Lace” set takes form

Community Little Theatre’s Bill Hamilton and Phil Vampatella have lost count of how many sets they have designed and constructed, both together and with others, over many seasons of service with CLT.
They may not know how many, but their experience shows. The set of the company’s current production, Joseph Kesselring’s classic comedy, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” is turning into the latest masterpiece by this fearless team of volunteer carpenters and their co-creators, Carol Hodgkin and Glynnis Nadel, who are adding the artistic décor to Director Adam P. Blais’ design.
The production will open on Friday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. for its two-week run at Great Falls Performing Arts Center in Auburn. Tickets are $18; $15 for seniors ages 60+; $12 for children ages 12-. They may be purchased at the Box Office, by calling 783-0958, or at LACLT.com.

Celebration Barn Theater of South Paris will present its “Summer Finale” on Friday August 30 and Saturday August 31 at 8 p.m. The two shows celebrate the end of the Barn’s summer programming season with new work by special guest artists Hilary Chaplain, David Gaines, Aaron Tucker, and others.
An acclaimed physical comedienne and actress, Hilary Chaplain has performed her award-winning original solo and ensemble work around the world. Hot on the heels of presenting her solo show, “A Life In Her Day,” at the Barn, Chaplain returns for the Summer Finale with a fresh set of performance pieces.
