Enough is Enough: Bike lanes draw more interest than city budget

Last week at a workshop, the Lewiston City Council found before it an agenda item that makes the blood of Lewiston citizens percolate like the coffee in a TV commercial for Chock Full o’Nuts.
This item tends to fill the City Council Chamber with people from both sides of the issue. Perplexed city officials ponder why a discussion on bike lanes draws more people to a City Council meeting than a multi-million dollar budget.
Androscoggin Bank sponsors Run for Independence
Androscoggin Bank has signed on as platinum sponsor of the Independence Association’s third annual Run for Independence. The only run in Maine focused upon people with disabilities, and the first 10K run in Maine to include a para-athletes wheeled division, the run will take place on Sunday, May 17 at 9 a.m. at Brunswick Junior High School. Androscoggin Bank has committed to a three-year sponsorship of this annual event.
Railroad Club presents Hobo Holiday
The Great Falls Model Railroad Club will present its fourth annual Hobo Holiday on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the club’s two-story, wheelchair accessible building at 144 Mill Street, across from the Barker Mill Apartments in Auburn. Children and adults are invited to add to the festive atmosphere of this family-fun event by dressing as hobos.

Public works departments host open houses
Public works departments in Southern and Central Maine will mark National Public Works Week from May 17 through 23. Local departments holding public Open Houses on Sunday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. include Auburn Public Services, Freeport Public Works and Yarmouth Public Works.

Gov. LePage surprises Bruce Myrick on 80th birthday

Governor Paul R. LePage and First Lady Ann LePage flank Bruce and Rita Myrick at a surprise 80th birthday party for Bruce on Saturday at Grid Iron in Lewiston.
