This week I was scolded by a gentleman, who carries very liberal beliefs, for what he characterized as the vindictiveness and contempt in my weekly column criticizing liberals. He felt that as mayor of the City of Lewiston, I should be above that. Well, I’m not.
Tickets available for Helicopter Ball Drop
Central Maine Medical Center will present its fifth annual Arbor House Helicopter Ball Drop on Tuesday, June 23 at 5 p.m. at Martindale Country Club in Auburn. Hosted by the CMMC Associates Volunteer Program, this unique fundraiser – in which raffle tickets are sold to represent the numbered golf balls to be dropped onto a target from a helicopter at the event – benefits CMMC’s Arbor House.
Basilica to host Corpus Christi procession
In honor of the Feast of Corpus Christi (also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ), Roman Catholic parishes around the Diocese of Portland have planned celebrations, Eucharistic processions and special events on Sunday, June 7.
Governor cuts ribbon at SafeVoices Walk/Run
Governor Paul R. LePage was in his hometown of Lewiston on Sunday to cut the ribbon for the SafeVoices 2015 Walk/Run to End Domestic Violence. He gave opening remarks, high-fived runners at the starting line, then cut the ribbon to start the walkers. Rainy weather did not dampen their spirits. The mission of SafeVoices is to support and empower those affected by domestic violence.

They sound like spoiled little children, who after getting their way over the years are suddenly
introduced to the concept of “tough love.” Like any child after being told “no,” they whine that their parents are being unfair. They feel that their parents have become unhinged and unglued.
Selco receives Achievement Award

Selco was awarded the Economic Development Achievment Award for the city of Auburn. Selco was initially founded in 1990 among five partners doing business as Distributors Clearing House. The business was located at 730 Main Street in Lewiston. The initial concept was to sell plumbing and heating supplies to both wholesale and retail customers.
LYAC asks Geiger students: “Do You Do Lew?”
Visiting Geiger Elementary School recently were LYAC members (l. to r., from front) Deni Federico, Khafiya Dualeh, Courtney Caouette, Zahida Sheikh, Aida Vassell, Marge Seguin, Nairus Abdullahi and Kal Issa.
Fifth graders tested their knowledge in a Lewiston-based Jeopardy game.
Members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council recently made presentations to third and fifth grade classes at Geiger Elementary school to encourage the students to join them as cheerleaders for Lewiston and to ask them – as the future citizens and leaders of the city – to think about what they value in their community.
Kiwanis host Pancake Breakfast

Auburn Kiwanis Club will present its 57th annual Pancake Breakfast to raise money for youth programs in Androscoggin County on Sunday, June 7, from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Academy in Auburn. All are welcome to attend this fun community event that will feature pancakes, Mailhot sausage, Starbucks coffee, kids’ activities and a Pancake Eating Contest for local Kiwanis Key Club members.
