MECA exhibit features makers of Lewiston-Auburn

Running through July 31, the exhibit features the work of the growing number of makers and manufacturers setting up shop in Lewiston-Auburn.
A special, interactive exhibit on display at Maine College of Art in Portland through July will showcase the thriving but often hidden creative makers of Lewiston-Auburn. “Made in L-A” will open with a reception on Friday, July 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the college’s Fitzpatrick Gallery at 522 Congress Street. Part of Portland’s First Friday Art Walk, the event is free and open to the public.
Community Credit Union hires Hogan as President/CEO
Community Credit Union has announced the hiring of Jennifer Hogan as its new President/CEO. Hogan previously worked for Community Credit Union for five years as Marketing Director and four years as Executive Vice President. She also has experience in business-to-business sales prior to entering the Credit Union industry.
MSAD 52 Adult Ed students graduate
MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education recently honored 30 adults who earned their high school diploma or Hiset this year. The graduates were Susan Bornstein, Eliza Brooks, Keenan Caldwell, Philip Castonguay, Seth Caron, Cameron Childs, Dalton Decoster, William Estabrook, Abdilgani Farah, Brigette A. Henderson, Emily M. Hunt, Adar Abdi Hussein, Tazz M. Lavoie, Ashley Martel, Jonathan Mattingly, Hannah N. Plummer, Dustin G. Shedd, Jessica Shumway, Caleb Shuck, Lindsay B. Swearingen, and Chelsea Rose Vincent.
Also honored as CNA graduates were Filsan Abdillahi, Iris Aguilar, Mariah Duval, Maribel Ramirez, Deka Adaweh, Angeir Chan, Ian Hutchinson, Heather Jamison and Elizabeth Stover.

Local students take first, second place in NYC poetry slam
Two Edward Little High School students took first and second place in the recent 2016 Global Writes poetry slam competition in the Bronx, New York.
“I heard the cheering. It felt euphoric. It was amazing!” recalled first-place winner Ahmed Mohamed of his final performance. “People like me get to tell the world our stories.”
“With poetry, you are able to put how you feel into words and share it with others,” added second-place winner Khadro Adow. “It gives you confidence in who you are and where you come from.”
