Comm. Concepts’ drivers program going strong at 30
As 2016 marks the 30th year of Community Concepts’ Transportation Program, demand and need for this important door-to-door service remains as strong as ever. Relying largely on volunteers, Community Concepts provides transportation for MaineCare-qualified medical appointments, breast cancer treatment and support services (funded by a grant from the Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure) and to meet the needs of elders and veterans.
This volunteer driver program is an important one for the region. Last year, Community Concepts volunteer drivers logged more than 6.4 million miles in completing over 155,000 trips.
V-Day aUbUrn fights domestic violence
Through two performances of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” at the United Universalist church of Auburn recently, V-Day aUbUrn 2016 generated over $1000 for local organizations that stand in solidarity against domestic violence. Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice celebrates 50 years

This year, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice and its care partners celebrate 50 years of service to residents and their families in Maine. Throughout those years, AHCH has been known for its high quality care on the forefront of health care change. In 1966, AHCH started with one nurse, one aide and one office support person; today, the agency employs over 400 people with over 280 volunteers and serves 122 cities, towns and townships throughout its service area.
Auburn to celebrate 5th annual Dinny Sullivan Day
The City of Auburn will celebrate local businesses while enjoying a day of fun with its fifth annual “Salute to Dinny Sullivan – Hats Off to Neighborhood Businesses” Day on Saturday, March 12. Numerous businesses and non-profit agencies around town will host activities. The community is invited to join in the fun.
The Dinny Sullivan Day celebration has three purposes: to recognize local businesses for their hard work and numerous contributions to the community; to provide an opportunity for local non-profits to organize an activity or event to raise funds or awareness for their work; and to encourage all to come out and enjoy the day in Auburn.
Franco Center screens noted Quebecois film

This film about the legendary French Canadian strong man will be shown free of charge on Tuesday, March 15 at 6 p.m. and again on Thursday, March 17 at 2 p.m.
As part of its week-long celebration of Francophonie Week, the Gendron Franco Center will screen the Quebecois drama film “Louis Cyr: The Strongest Man in the World” on Tuesday, March 15 at 6 p.m. and again on Thursday, March 17 at 2 p.m. In French with English subtitles, the film will be presented in the center’s Performance Hall. Both screenings will be free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted to support the week’s events.
Diego Villamarin receives St. Dom’s Principal’s Award
Senior Diego Villamarin of Auburn has been selected to receive Saint Dominic Academy’s 2016 Principal’s Award. Sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, the award is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Local business professionals and dignitaries converged on Aero Air Park recently for a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the Grand Opening of the unique and fun new attraction at 40 East Avenue in Lewiston. An indoor trampoline park located in the Lewiston Mall next to Sea 40 Japanese Cuisine, Aero Air Park features wall-to-wall trampolines that include an open jump arena, trampoline dodge ball, a basketball dunk station and a “trick” zone. The facility also includes an arcade, frozen yogurt bar and private party room.
Mechanics Savings donates $1000 to Jubilee Center

Mechanics Savings Bank has donated $1,000 to support Trinity Jubilee Center’s Sponsor a Meal Project. The donation will fund the soup kitchen’s operation for ten days, making possible the preparation and distribution of over 1,000 meals. Since it’s inception in 1991, Trinity Jubilee Center has assisted thousands of Maine families through five programs that run seven days per week: a Meals Program, Food Pantry, Day Shelter, Resource Center, and Refugee Integration Program. Mechanics Savings Bank has been a consistent supporter of the Center, whose focus areas are community education, food security, youth development and public health.
Central Maine Healthcare CEO to retire
The Central Maine Healthcare governing board has announced that the organization’s chief executive officer will retire during the summer of 2016. Central Maine Healthcare President and CEO Peter E. Chalke has notified the CMH Board of Directors that he will retire from the organization he has led for more than a decade, according to CMH Board of Directors Chair Deborah Dunlap Avasthi.
CMH is the parent organization to 17 companies that serve the healthcare needs of the central Maine region. CMH’s subsidiaries include Central Maine Medical Center, Bridgton Hospital, Rumford Hospital, and the Central Maine Medical Group. With over 3,700 employees, CMH is the largest healthcare employer in central Maine.
Off-Broadway hit gets N.E. premier at Public Theatre

The Public Theatre’s production of the humorous and touching play “What Rhymes with America” opens Friday, March 11.
The Public Theatre will present the New England premiere of the humorous, touching and thought-provoking Off-Broadway hit “What Rhymes with America” March 11 through 20. This poignant and funny play explores the lives, hearts and heartbreak of a recently divorced dad, his estranged teenage daughter, a struggling actress and an endearing middle-aged virgin as they each try to figure out how to move forward in their lives.
