The eighth annual Maine Native American Summer Market will take place at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village on Saturday, August 27 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission to this rain-or-shine event – which is the southernmost gathering of Wabanaki artists in the state – is free of charge.

In addition to performances of drumming, dancing and storytelling, the event will feature more than 40 members of the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Micmac and Maliseet tribes on hand to demonstrate traditional Wabanaki crafts, including basketmaking, woodcarving, bark etching, doll making, beadwork and jewelry.

High-quality handmade crafts and barbeque lunch plates will be available for purchase, and a large Passamaquoddy fancy basket by National Living Treasure Molly Neptune Parker will be raffled to benefit the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to learn about and experience Maine’s Native American culture. Shaker Village is located at 707 Shaker Road (Route 26) in New Gloucester, 15 minutes from the Maine Turnpike. For more information, call 926-4597 or see www.maineshakers.com.
