L-A Memorial Day parade is Saturday

The Lewiston and Auburn Memorial Day parade will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 28.

Starting from Kennedy Park in Lewiston, the parade will go to Chestnut Street, Lisbon Street and Main Street, over Longley Bridge, around Platz Plaza in Auburn, then return and end at Veterans Park in Lewiston.

Anyone interested in participating in the parade should contact Chairman Willie Danforth at 777-4759.

Following the parade, a Memorial Day ceremony will be held at Veterans Park on Main Street. Those participating include the Rev. Maurice Morin, L & A Veterans Council, mayors of Lewiston and Auburn, guest speaker Brigadier General Don McCormack, U.S. Congressman Michael Michaud and Roger Renaud.

All veterans posts’ chaplains will give the names of their members who have passed away during the past year. “Just Us” entertainers will perform during the ceremony.

The 21st stone with the logo of the women in the Air Force will be unveiled, followed by a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers monument. Around noon, a ceremony for the Field of Honor with 400 American flags on display will be held at Simard-Payne Park (Railroad Park).

For more information, call Bert Dutil, L & A Veterans Council advisor, at 786-2305.
