Woodlands opens Memory Care of Lewiston, Phase II

Maine-based Woodlands Senior Living is preparing to open Phase II of Woodlands Memory Care of Lewiston, the family-owned company’s 11th Senior Living Facility in Maine and its sixth purpose-built memory care community in the state. Phase I opened in October of 2015, when half of the 64-bed community became available for residents. With Phase I already at capacity, the 32 additional beds of Phase II will be a welcome opportunity for potential residents in need of memory care.

“We are excited to be opening the next phase of our new Woodlands Memory Care of Lewiston community,” said Matthew Walters, chief operating officer of Woodlands Senior Living. “This second, separate 32-resident ‘neighborhood’ is identical in all respects to the one we opened just three short months ago. The success and rate of occupancy of the first phase of this community illustrates the real need for high-quality, purpose-built residential care for seniors living with Alzheimer’s Disease and related memory impairments in the Lewiston-Auburn area. We are honored to be able to provide this unique and specialized service and to work each day to ensure that every individual we serve is achieving the best quality of life possible.”

Woodlands Senior Living opened the specialized community for people with Alzheimer’s Disease and related memory impairments at 45 Mollison Way in Lewiston. The second phase of the $6.5 million, 64-bed community is already more than half reserved, with the remainder of the rooms expected to fill quickly.

An Open House for members of the public to tour phase II of the community and ask questions will take place on Thursday and Friday, January 14 and 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, January 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop-ins are welcome and no appointments are necessary.

The building concept and program of services is the product of Woodlands’ more than 15 years of experience developing and operating memory care communities in Maine. Among its features are high-efficiency climate controls, video monitoring safety systems and multiple high-end amenities, including open-air central atriums, home-like activity rooms and a large, outside courtyard with walking paths, gardens and a gazebo.

Also available at Woodlands Memory Care of Lewiston is specialized lighting to mitigate what’s known as “sundown syndrome.” L-e-d lighting in common areas brightens and dims throughout the course of the day to minimize the confusion and agitation that can afflict individuals with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.

“We have received an overwhelmingly positive response to our facility and program of services from the Lewiston-Auburn community,” Walters added. “We have found that Lewiston is a great place to operate, with strong support from other businesses and the community-at-large.”

Woodlands Memory Care of Lewiston is a 39,000 square foot community, divided into two identical 32-bed “neighborhoods,” with 28 private rooms and 18 double rooms, including 36 beds reserved for individuals subsidized by MaineCare.

Maine-based Woodlands Senior Living is a family-owned company headquartered in Waterville. Recognized as operators of Maine’s premier Senior Living communities since 1996, Woodlands Senior Living has facilities in Cape Elizabeth, Hallowell, Waterville, Rockland and Brewer. Each campus offers residents warm, compassionate and personalized care in separate and distinct residential care facilities, specialized Alzheimer’s care residences, and, in Waterville, independent living apartments.
