“Stand Against Racism” on April 27
The YWCA of Central Maine will host its second annual “Stand Against Racism” on Saturday, April 27. Part of a series of events organized by local YWCA’s across the country, the day will consist of walking and public demonstration to promote recognition of racism in Maine. Walkers who participate will become community leaders in helping to break the cycle of racism.
After last year’s successful launch, the Y hopes to enlist at least 100 people for this year’s event. The first 100 who sign up will receive t-shirts as symbols of their dedication.
The schedule of events is: 10 a.m., registration and light breakfast provided by the youth cooking class at the 21st Century Afterschool Program; 11 a.m., presentations by keynote speakers and kids’ activities; 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., lunch provided; 1 to 2 p.m., march from the YWCA to Bates Street and back (approximately 2 miles); 2 to 3 p.m., small group conversations.
The YWCA of Central Maine is located at 130 East Avenue in Lewiston. For more information about this event, see www.standagainstracism.org.
