Mystery for Hire presents “Who Killed Jolly Roger”
Mystery for Hire will return to Marco’s Restaurant in Lewiston for a performance of an original pirate-themed mystery called “Who Killed Jolly Roger” on Saturday, November 1.
“We started doing shows at Marco’s at their former location on Lisbon Street,” said Dan Marois, who, with his wife, Denise, own and operate Mystery for Hire. “We then followed them to their new location. I would guess that we’ve done dozens of shows for them through the years.”
The pirate mystery show is a popular new option among the many themes that Mystery for Hire performs. “One of our long-time actors, Bob LeBlanc, has written an outrageous script with some of the most interesting pirates you’ll ever meet,” said Marois, who encourages audience members to dress up for the pirate theme. “Audience members become part of a pirate ship crew and there’s always a bit of competition during the evening as each one tries to outdo the other.”
Marois says that a mystery show performance appeals to a wide group of people. “If you like comic interactive fun, the show is a treat,” said Marois. “It also appeals to people who like to dine out, party a bit, and who enjoy theater.”
Mystery for Hire is Maine’s longest running professional mystery dinner theater troupe, having performed over 540 shows to audiences totaling over 40,000. Most of their business is for private group functions, but they also present public shows at the Senator Inn of Augusta, the Spectacular Event Center of Bangor and at Marco’s in Lewiston.
“Our public shows offer guests a chance to enjoy an evening of entertainment and dining all in one experience,” said Marois. He notes that the ticket price of $40 per person is all-inclusive for the mystery show, a full buffet, tax and gratuity. “Guests like the idea of one price for everything except drinks.”
The cast for the pirate show includes Mystery for Hire favorites and newcomers, including Bob LeBlanc, originally from western Maine, Katie Marois Nadeau, formerly of Poland Spring, Brian Files from Gardiner, Julie Poulin from Monmouth and Greg Simpson from Minot. “Some members of this cast have performed together for almost twenty years,” said Marois. “They know how to inspire each other in a performance and how to make the audience experience exceptionally fun.”
Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7:00. Reservations can be made in person at Marco’s (12 Mollison Way) or by calling 783-0336. For more information about Mystery for Hire, see www.mysteryforhire.com.
