The City of Auburn recently became the first city in the state to sign up for one of Governor Paul LePage’s newest initiatives, the Maine Hire-A-Vet campaign, which began on September 7. The goal of the campaign is to sign up at least 100 employers who will pledge to recruit and hire at least one veteran each, for a total of 100 veterans hired.

“Auburn has continued to show itself as an employer that supports its staff on active duty and their families when they’ve been called to serve overseas,” said Mayor Jonathan LaBonté. “This is one of the reasons I’m proud to serve this city as its mayor. Our City Manager and Assistant City Manager, both of whom are veterans, responded quickly to establish Auburn as the first municipality in Maine to sign on to the ‘Hire-A-Vet’ program. Auburn is committed to this initiative, and we look forward to adding more veterans to our team.”

The campaign will support employers seeking to expand their hiring of veterans through a network of state and federal agencies, resources and nonprofits; education on military language and culture; assistance with recruiting, hiring, assimilation and retention; a Veteran Hiring Toolkit; and recognition for the hiring and advancement of veterans.
