Androscoggin Bank has announced that it is the platinum sponsor of the Independence Association’s third annual Run for Independence, Maine’s only run focused on people with disabilities. The run will be held May 17 at Brunswick Junior High School in Brunswick and is the first 10K in Maine to include a para-athletes wheeled division. Androscoggin Bank has committed to a three-year sponsorship of the annual event.

The Run for Independence is a community event focused on “celebrating ability” while raising awareness and encouraging inclusivity. Proceeds from the race will support Independence Association employment service programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Dennis St. Pierre, Independence Association executive director, said, “This is the first of its kind 10k in Maine for individuals with disabilities. This race is designed to allow anyone with any kind of disability to enjoy participating in an event as complete equals.”
