“Opening of the Beach” celebration is June 16
The “Opening of the Beach” celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at Auburn Municipal Beach. Rain date is Sunday, June 17.
While the beach will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., the celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be no lifeguard.
A proposal is being drafted to request an official name for the facility. The proposed name is Lake Grove Beach Park. This will recognize the history of recreational enjoyment of Lake Auburn.
The municipal beach has had many references, but no official name. Do you remember when it was called the Gate House, the Outlet Beach, Fair Street Beach or the Municipal Beach?
Hosts include Auburn Ward 1 neighborhoods; Auburn Ward 5 neighborhoods; and any other city councilors who are willing to host and participate.
Sponsors so far are Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission; Lake Auburn Watershed Neighborhood Association; Poland Spring Bottling Company; and the New Auburn Social Club.
Sponsors include anyone who contributes items, financial support or in-kind contributions. All are welcome.
Scheduled activities include a cookout; The Dinny Sullivan “Hats Off to Neighborhood Businesses” Leprechaun hunt with a prize of a $50 Hannaford card; games, such as basketball, volleyball; a music circle with acoustic guitars, hand drums, fiddles and other instruments for a jam session.
