Enough is Enough: Freedom Trail belongs to everyone, not just liberals
By Robert E. Macdonald
Mayor of Lewiston
Enough is enough. It is time for those of us who are right of the political center to rise up and counter the socialist philosophies of those on the left. Not on the streets. Not in the back alleys. But at the ballot box in November.
It is time we set a corrective course that brings our government back to our founding principles. We are engaged in a philosophical fight for the soul of our country. There is no doubt that both sides love this country, but disagree on the direction to proceed.
Last week I discussed The Politically Correct Police a.k.a. the liberal wing of the Maine Democratic Party. Their efforts to exclude words that they classify as hateful from our vocabulary have now been dwarfed by a Democratic dictator currently holding the office of Mayor of Boston, Thomas M. Menino.
Dan Cathy is the president of Chick-Fil-A, a national restaurant chain of 1,600 eateries throughout the United States. But Cady is also an outspoken, unabashed Christian activist. His company, Chick-Fil-A, is run on biblical-based principles, among them closing on Sundays. All are welcome in his restaurants regardless of race, creed, beliefs, gender or sexual orientation. After all, a customer is a customer.
But Cathy’s activism against gay marriage and the company’s donation of millions of dollars to pro-traditional-marriage groups has offended Menino. He has threatened to block the restaurant from setting foot in Boston. Further fueling his anger is the location Cathy is eyeing. It is across from Boston City Hall, the Holocaust Memorial and Faneuil Hall.
Menino has made three telling statements about Chick-Fil-A, which stress how dangerously liberals are trying to limit our rights as United States citizens. His statements include the following:
1. “Chick-Fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have business in the City of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion.”
First, there is no evidence of discrimination against any group—with the exception of Menino. He claims to be in the “forefront of inclusion,” which translated means: as long as you accept liberal principles.
2. “If they need a license in this city it will be very difficult—unless they open up their policies.” This is why people laugh at Menino. Many of his statements make sense only to Menino.
3. Finally, “That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started, right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-Fil-A, or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”
Yes, mayor, that’s the Freedom Trail. It represents our right to express our opinions, even if they are offensive to you. Also, the Freedom Trail belongs to every citizen in our great country, not just liberal Bostonians.
This situation exposes liberal arrogance and the naked intolerance to those opposing their views. It also shows how much intelligence drops when liberals take over the school system. Can you say “busing”?
Two weeks ago I informed you that I had sent a letter to Governor Paul LePage, requesting that an investigation be conducted to determine if the TANF and ASPIRE Programs were properly administered.
In the last few days, Governor LePage has directed staff people to evaluate past practices at both programs. Lewiston’s General Assistance staff is now in the process of turning over the names of recent applicants who applied for assistance after their TANF benefits ran out.
Governor LePage’s quick action in addressing this program is commendable. Yet, it begs the question: Why did the previous governor and legislators fail to identify and enact legislation to address the glaring problems and financial waste associated with the problems in these programs?
I commend the Governor for standing up and cutting financial assistance to the politically correct good-old-boys network. They used our tax money to fund government programs that perpetuate and ensure their power and employment.
Scheduling of appointments for new families coming off TANF continues. The count is currently 45 families consisting of 208 individuals. This is the number that has applied thus far for benefits (same as last week).
The dollar amount has risen and stands at $7,145.35. To date, 15 of the 45 families have been granted assistance; the remaining 30 have not passed in all of their paperwork.
Do you feel your wallet getting lighter? Don’t forget. Remember in November.
His name is Dan Cathy, not Cady.
Your right! My wallet is getting lighter! I just received my property tax bill for.my home in Lewiston. Care to guess if it went up or down? Of course, i forgot, my home isnt “mine” it belongs to the community to tax it as it sees fit! Pay & pay to support the obama & democrat socialistic agenda! And dont even think about complaining about it! You will be castigated and ridiculed for thinking diferently than the social engineers who perpetuate our slavery to the system! Think like they do or you are nothing! Definitely remember in november!!
