Postponed because of a February snowstorm, the third annual Bates College Folk Music Festival will takes place this weekend at campus locations to be announced. Featuring three days of contradancing, workshops and performances, the festival is open to the public.

Performers will include the Scottish-Latin fusion band Alba’s Edge; the Scottish-influenced, Boston-based duo Katie McNally and Eric McDonald; the Bates student band Chase the Fiddlers; the Midcoast fiddle and mandolin duo Velocipede; the Portland Irish-music trio Press Gang; and local string players Greg and Jessie Boardman.

The event will open on Thursday at 7 p.m. with a fiddle tune workshop, followed at 8 p.m. by Chase the Fiddlers and Velocipede.

Friday’s activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a contradance, followed at 8 p.m. by student bands, at 9 p.m. by Press Gang, and at 10:30 p.m. by a singing circle and jam session.

Saturday activities will begins at 9:30 a.m. with workshops, followed at 11:30 a.m. by McNally and McDonald, at 12:30 p.m. with an outdoor contradance, and at 2:30 p.m. by student bands. The program will resume at 7:30 p.m. with a contradance, followed at 9 p.m. by Alba’s Edge, followed at 11 p.m. by a singing circle and jam session.

Admission fees will vary, from $5 to $20 for one day to $10 to $30 for all three days, based upon ability to pay. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Tickets will be available at the door.
