Lewiston Mayoral Run-Off Election is Tuesday

A citywide Special Mayoral Run-Off Election will be held on Tuesday, December 13 for the purpose of electing a mayor for the City of Lewiston.

There are two candidates running for the Office of Mayor: Robert E. Macdonald, 6 Jolin Street; and Mark W. Paradis, 82 Prospect Avenue.

The Lewiston City Charter requires that the mayor be elected by a majority vote. Of the five candidates who ran for mayor at the November 8 election, none received a majority of the votes cast. The two candidates who received the highest amount of votes must run against each other for the position in a special run-off election.

Paradis received the most votes on November 8 with 3,034; and Macdonald received the next-highest amount with 2,893.

For the December 13 Mayoral Run-Off election, there is only one place to cast votes. All voters will be voting at the Multi-Purpose Community Center gymnasium at 145 Birch Street. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Parking is available across the street in the Androscoggin Bank Coliseé parking lot.

Absentee voting can be conducted in person during regular business hours at the City Clerk’s Office, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 27 Pine Street, from until 4:30 p.m. today, Thursday, December 8.

Voters may register to vote at the polling location on Election Day and should bring photo identification with them. Sample ballots and additional information are available at www.lewistonmaine.gov.

The last Mayoral Run-Off election was held in December 9, 1997 between Kaileigh Tara and Normand Poulin.

Questions regarding the election should be directed to the Lewiston City Clerk’s Office at 513-3124.
