Mechanics Savings supports heart, stroke association
Mechanics Savings Bank has donated $1,000 to the American Heart Association-American Stroke Association. The funds will be used to sponsor this year’s Central Maine Heart Walk, scheduled for September 18. Proceeds from the event will support life-saving research, educational programs for medical professionals and the public, and community outreach and advocacy.
Each year, over a dozen bank employees and their families participate in the walk, while other employees volunteer by serving on the fundraiser’s Lewiston-Auburn executive leadership committee or working at the local event.
Heart disease and stroke significantly impact our community. On average, heart disease claims the lives of over 2,652 Maine residents each year and stroke claims the lives of over 640 residents. The American Heart Association-American Stroke Association is the nation’s oldest, largest voluntary organization providing public health education to help individuals live healthier lives and reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke.
