Gorham’s Meaning of Christmas Project Preps for Holidays

GORHAM, ME (October 20, 2022) — The holidays are almost here! October is flying by and that means that the holidays are right around the corner!

Last year The Meaning of Christmas Project was able to supply our local schools with gifts for every single child that they requested help for. Through the generosity of people in our community and a last minute, game-changing donation from Gorham Sand & Gravel, we made at least one day really special for a lot of children. We were even able to supply name-brand clothes and warm coats for kiddos who needed them.

Let’s do it again!

The Meaning of Christmas Project is in contact with Gorham schools to work out the details of what this year will look like, with the goal of having a donation sign-up list ready to go before Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In the meantime, there are a couple of things you can do if you are interested in helping.

Head over to The Meaning of Christmas Project Facebook page and like the page.

Get ready to donate all those gift bags you never used last year! Last year it became apparent that gift bags are the way to go for the school staff and parents who might want to double check a gift. We will be using gift bags and tissue paper exclusively this year.

Double up. If your child wants a hot toy (or video game, or Roblox card…) this year and you end up finding it on sale, chances are high that there is another kiddo who wants the same thing.

Think about donating gift cards. We had so many Walmart, Target, and Hannaford gift card requests last year and it is likely that those will be the top GCs that will be requested again. If you don’t have time to shop and want to help, those are an easy way to spread a little love!

Let those who might not be in schools know about us. The schools are fantastic about getting presents and clothes to the children they know, but if you know any homeschooling parents or other community members with children too young to be in school who need a little help this holiday season, please have them send a message. At this point we are aiming to help children specifically as a way to help families in general.

We can’t wait to do this again and see what our amazing community can do when we rally together! Stay tuned for more details…
