Gorham Middle School starts Baking Club, seeks donations

GORHAM, ME — The new Baking Club at Gorham Middle School is seeking community support. The response from students has been overwhelming, with over 20 eager participants each week. Faced with the challenge of managing a large group and assigning responsibilities, advisor Angela Gospodarek opted for a creative solution – “Mug Meals.” Each student receives a personalized recipe card, guiding them through the process of creating their own delightful “Mug Meal” or “Mug Snack” in a mug, utilizing the microwave for efficiency in the bustling kitchen.

Gospodarek writes: While embracing the joy of baking, we’re also delving into essential aspects such as kitchen safety, making healthy choices, exploring baking trivia, and, true to my passion, incorporating a touch of science. We’re unraveling the mysteries behind yeast, understanding the role of bacteria, exploring the concept of gluten, and discussing lactose intolerance.

However, sustaining the provision of ingredients for this enthusiastic group on a regular basis poses a challenge. Rather than burdening the students with financial requests, I’m reaching out to the community for support. Here’s my “wish list,” which can be purchased off of Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2J6HFBNZQE00H?ref_=wl_share AND/OR gently used items as you clean out your kitchen or visit Goodwill are more than welcome!
