Cabin Fever Concert Series presents Dave Rowe

ae.Laurie.Rowe

Rowe performs at the First Universalist Church of Turner Center to raise funds for local music education on Saturday, April 9.

The First Universalist Church of Turner Center will echo with the sounds of folk music for a good cause when its Cabin Fever Concert Series presents Auburn native Dave Rowe on Saturday, April 9 at 7 p.m. All proceeds from the event will help purchase musical instruments for area school students and recordings for the Turner Library’s music collection.

A singular entertainer who can relate to even the most reticent audiences and get them singing along, Rowe firmly believes that singing is balm for the soul, and that singing together, whether in choirs or pubs, at concerts or kitchen parties, is a primal part of the human experience. As the son of a member of a popular folk trio, Rowe always vaguely expected to become a professional musician, which he did at the age of 15. Since then, he has become a staple of pubs and music halls throughout New England and has recorded fifteen critically-acclaimed albums by himself and with various bands. He is currently taking his solo show on the road to concert halls and festivals around the U.S. and Canada.

When not touring, Rowe can usually be found writing songs on his back porch at his home in Portland, working on the house or in his small yard, enjoying the sea air, walking or bicycling, and just generally enjoying the beauty of Maine’s largest city.

“I’m honored to be part of this wonderful event to raise money for music students,” said Rowe. “Music education is very important. Study after study have shown that kids who study music are better in nearly every other subject. As a music educator, I’ve seen it happen first-hand. Programs like this can’t undo the damage done by irresponsible budget cuts, but if it gets just one kid making music, if it expands just one person’s mind, it’s totally worth doing”

The First Universalist Church of Turner Center presents a monthly Cabin Fever Concert each year from February through May, with all proceeds supporting local music education and endeavors. Some concerts are “by donation” while others are ticketed events. Tickets for this show are $10 and can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 1-800-838-3006 or at www.daverowemusic.com.
