Museum L-A to host “Down by the Riverside”
Get your dancing shoes ready, because on Saturday, August 11, Museum L-A’s successful Under the Stars dance party will move “Down by the Riverside” to the Androscoggin Riverfront. The party will follow last year’s mortgage-burning celebration as the second Museum L-A event to be held at 1 Beech Street, adjacent to Simard-Payne Park in Lewiston, location of the Museum’s future home.
This evening of dancing in the moonlight will feature music by The Moon Dawgs, who’ve kept L-A rocking since 1963, and a long intermission capped by a surprise Riverfront show. Refreshments will be provided by The Green Ladle; a cash bar will be available. Doors will open at 7 p.m., with dancing from 8:00 to midnight.
Rachel Desgrosseilliers, Executive Director of Museum L-A, said of the party’s move from last year’s garage-top location, “With the difficulty of having to crane everything to the top of the garage, we decided to feature another amazing L-A asset: the downtown riverfront area, with its own spectacular views. This allows us to showcase some of the cleanup work that has been accomplished at our new site, and focus attention upon both cities’ plans for the riverfront.”
The Museum is encouraging party-goers to have dinner at their favorite downtown restaurant before heading over to the event. “This is a great opportunity for everyone to come out and support local businesses that are bringing excitement back to the downtowns,” said Desgrosseilliers.
Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. They may be purchased at Museum L-A, by calling 207-333-3881, or online at rsvp.museumla.org. Sponsored tables of eight are available for $350.
Committee members organizing the party are Kathy Beckvar, Alina Burke, Jane Clavet, Richard Courtemanche, Sue Donovan, Disa Fedorowicz-Drews, and Debbie Rancourt. Volunteers will be needed to help with logistics; to volunteer, call Diane Williams at 333-3881.
