Hall Gallery displays Shetterly portraits
Ten portraits by artist Robert Shetterly are on display in the Hall Gallery at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College until March 23. The paintings are from Shetterly’s series, “Americans Who Tell the Truth,” which he describes as a showcase for “models of courageous citizenship.” Shetterly will discuss the portrait series on Thursday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. in a presentation that is free and open to the public.
The portraits, now totaling over 180, travel around the country to museums, community centers, churches, colleges, and schools. They include historical figures and contemporary Americans, well-known figures and those who have worked in obscurity. The subjects of the eight portraits now on display at the college are Nancy Carlsson-Paige, Ross Gelbspan, Woody Guthrie, Barbara Johns, Maya Kazazic, Russell Libby, Eva Paterson, Erik Reece, Zoe Weil, and Judy Wicks.
The portraits are displayed in the Hall Gallery along with the college’s biennial exhibit, “Area Artists 2013.” Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College is located at 51 Westminster Street in Lewiston.
