Androscoggin Bank sponsors Run for Independence

Androscoggin Bank has signed on as platinum sponsor of the Independence Association’s third annual Run for Independence. The only run in Maine focused upon people with disabilities, and the first 10K run in Maine to include a para-athletes wheeled division, the run will take place on Sunday, May 17 at 9 a.m. at Brunswick Junior High School. Androscoggin Bank has committed to a three-year sponsorship of this annual event.

“It is our privilege to partner with the Independence Association to support their great programs for Mainers with disabilities,” said Androscoggin Bank Vice President of Marketing and Client Relations Melissa Rock. “The Run for Independence is a chance for the Bank’s employees to team up with and make a big impact in our community. We not only want to help the Independence Association raise funds, but more importantly, we want to help them bring greater awareness of their programs for people with disabilities. It is our honor to sponsor this event.”

The Run for Independence “Celebrates Ability” while raising awareness and encouraging inclusivity. Proceeds from the race support Independence Association employment service programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

“This is the first of its kind 10K in Maine for individuals with all types of disabilities,” said Independence Association Executive Director Dennis St. Pierre. “The race is designed to allow anyone with any kind of disability to enjoy participating as a complete equal.”

The event includes a 10K Wheel Division, 10K Run, 5K Run, 1-Mile Run and Free Kids Fun Run. $1440 in cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.
